Farahad – the era of Commanders

When all the smokes clears…
and the web site is back. Let’s discuss the next version of Farahad!

A few ideas currently in the forge

Game Play – ideas of what will change

  • Move away from virtual huge armies to Party Based play. [Party of armies 15/3]
  • Map Centric – limited World, forced conflicts.
  • The Map will have different Zones with different objectives.
A few examples: control resource nodes, outlooks, holy sites, strategic passages, power nodes/points, questing.
  • Move towards more Real Time Play and with some World Ticks.
  • No more resets, a Persistent World.
  •  …

What is kept from original?
Some of the old core will be considered and implemented when they fit in the new concept. Example (my thoughts now). I always liked the visual return time on attacks, training/building time. Improvement vs Expand (compact vs bloat), level trees, exp. pts in general (dots/visual). Items was nice helping with specs and being able to stack good ones, meant swapping as a strategy. Let’s not lose good stuff!

What will be removed?

  • Thing called management… it never made it to be fun.

… more on Game Play

  • Strategic – not just spent time, some parts of the game is slow paced and some are real time. Catch up with away bonus  (~ as before).
  • Four Factions, race vs race bonuses. Each faction has one faction they can never form groups with.
  • Levels, ~ each hero can develop skills. ~Think the old empire as a hero.

The Farahad Engine
The game engine is being designed for a more real time multiplayer scenario. This means it will be prepared for adding new game clients.
But I hope that the web client will good enough for now.

The Web Client
The web browser client will be based on web standards and information will be updated as things happens in the game. It will not be real time at first, but close to. Main rounds / ticks will be around 15s with a safe margin.
